Riverdale Series 2 Episode 6

For the last few weeks now, I haven’t been as excited as I once was about the release of a new Riverdale episode. In my opinion, they have all been good, solid episodes but nothing that really blew my socks off…UNTIL NOW!! This episode was the first one in a long time that had me gasping and shouting at my iPad. Here’s my full review :

Plot Summary

Nick St Clair’s actions come to light resulting in Cheryl and Veronica having to deal with what could have happened to them at the hands of that cretin. Furthermore, a town meeting has the mayor deciding to finally bring the Southside to heel. This then, in turn, sparks an unholy alliance between the Ghoulies and the Serpents- an alliance that Jughead is desperate to stop at all costs. Lastly, Betty is given a task by the Black Hood that sees her back in her Nancy Drew ways of the first series.

Good Points

Again this week I have to say that there were some amazing performances from the cast, in particular Madeleine Petsch (Cheryl Blossom). Her confrontations with her mother are usually unforgettable and iconic, this episode was no exception. I really felt Cheryl’s vulnerability this episode as she accused her mother of neglect and mistreatment. So Kudos to Petsch for putting in an awesome performance!

In addition, I’m super glad that Riverdale has gone back to being a mystery series like it was before. I’ve missed the puzzles, the scheming and plot twists from series one. In my opinion, this is what Riverdale excels at; the whole gang working together to uncover some deep dark truth whilst revealing things that were long since buried. This episode was full of that and as a result, I throughly enjoyed it.

Bad Points

Once again I have to say that I’m finding it really difficult to get behind this gang arc in Riverdale. I mean a road race… really? That’s not to say I don’t like how the Serpents are being treated in the program. I like how they are shown to be this family unit full of people who may do bad things from time to time but aren’t actually terrible people. However, the gang scenes where everyone is pretending to be “hard” make me cringe.

Overall Comments and Ratings

As I have previously expressed, I really enjoyed this episode of Riverdale. For me, it felt like Riverdale had rediscovered the spark that made it great in the first place. So with this in mind, I’ll give the episode an 9/10.
