Now I know I said that I was going to be more active when it comes to reviewing Riverdale, but in my defence, I have recently moved to a new country (Bonjour la France) and started work as a language assistant… Anyhow, this week’s episode of Riverdale was quite the corker as although the question surrounding the identity of the Black Hood was finally answered, the audience were still left this gnawing feeling of foreboding. With that in mind, here’s my review:
This episode sees Betty and Archie team up to save the life of the school janitor who has been taken by the Black Hood (or has he?). Meanwhile, Jughead rallies the Serpents to free his dad and the rest of the Serpents from under the Snake Charmer’s thumb. Also, Veronica goes snooping around in Hiram’s office and realises that it’s finally time that her parents tell her everything…
My favourite part of the episode had to be the final moments when Betty was throwing away the evidence that she had collected when searching for the Black Hood and the narration hints that the whole ordeal with the Black Hood was far from over. I liked this because it meant that the episode didn’t finish neatly, in other words, there as still some mysteries to solve. Furthermore, I also found the reveal of the Black Hood’s identity to be really underwhelming, so I was happy to learn that it wasn’t over and the Black Hood saga is a whole lot more complicated than it was previously presented.
I cannot be the only person watching this season who is having difficulty taking the Serpents seriously as a gang. Furthermore, I can’t be the only one who is finding it difficult to imagine Jughead as part of a gang too. I can’t really put my finger on why exactly I’m finding these two things difficult, however, it really does take me out of the program slightly when the Serpents appear on my screen attempting to be menacing.
Overall Comments and Ratings
So I did quite enjoy this weeks episode of Riverdale, not because we got the Black Hood reveal but because further mystery and mayhem was hinted at. Rating wise, I’ll give it a 7/10
